Tiptree Choral Society, under Musical Director Malcolm Boulter and accompanied by David Leveridge, will perform two of Handel’s ‘Coronation Anthems’ and Mendelssohn’s ‘Hymn of Praise’. The Coronation Anthems were written in 1727 for the coronation of George II and Queen Caroline and one of these anthems, ‘Zadoc the Priest’, has been sung at every coronation since then. The texts chosen by Handel go back even further to the coronation of James II in 1685. The choral section of Mendelssohn’s 2nd symphony, ‘Hymn of Praise’, contains the well-known chorale ‘Now thank we all our God’. The ‘symphony-cantata’ was written in 1840 in praise of and thanksgiving for the Creator - “But I would see all the arts, especially music, in the service of Him who gave and created them.” The work remained unpublished until after the composer’s death in 1847. The choir will be joined by soloists Claire Pendleton and Michael Savage. Come along to and enjoy these beautiful, familiar works. There will be a raffle (£1 a strip) in support of Society funds and free refreshments (donations appreciated if you are able). Programmes will be available at the cost of £1 each. Tickets are available online at tiptreechoral.uk and on the door. Adults £15, students £5, accompanied children under 16 free. We look forward to your company! Tickets are on sale now. For a small booking fee, you can book online. Further information from contact@tiptreechoral.uk Please download a poster
